Community capacity building is the support provided to help community groups and organisations:

  • Develop their programmes
  • Deliver local services
  • Represent their communities
  • Communicate with decision-making organisations

Support can be provided in a variety of ways, including:

  • Providing training or skills development for specific activities, such as starting a community café or youth club
  • Giving advice on how to carry out a community survey and how to take forward any ideas that come from that
  • Providing access to staff and equipment
  • Developing the confidence of people and groups to take forward their ideas

If you would like help and support, please contact your local community education worker at your local Community Education Centre.
