Scottish Child Payment Bridging Payments

New Scottish Child Payment Bridging Payments will be made for each school aged child who receives Free School Meals on the basis of low income in 2021 and 2022. These payments are funded by the Scottish Government.

The Autumn 2021 payment will continue to be made to those families currently in receipt of Footwear and Clothing Grant.

The payment can be used by families for any purpose as they see fit.

How will the payment be made to parents and carers?

We will make direct payments to your bank account, using the details we hold on your Free School Meals or Clothing Grant claim. If no bank details are held on file, payments will be issued by cheque.

When will I be paid?

Payment for each eligible pupil will be made on or around:

Autumn payments will be made on or around 08 October 2021 but this may vary slightly depending on your bank and payment method. .

Note:

If you receive Universal Credit, then this payment will be counted as capital. This will not normally affect the amount you receive unless you have savings or other capital totalling over £6,000. If you are concerned that this payment could impact your Universal Credit award, you should report the payment in your journal by signing in to your Universal Credit account or by calling the Universal Credit helpline on 0800 328 5644.

This payment will be disregarded in full for other benefits and for income tax purposes.

Who is not eligible for this payment?

Pupils not eligible for this are:

  • Pre-school aged children are not eligible for this additional payment. The Scottish Child Payment is available for children under the age of 6.
  • P1-P4 pupils and those pupils in special educational settings where they receive a free meal through universal and not means tested provision.

Free School Meal Holiday Support Payment - October 2021 school holiday week

A payment of £17.50 per pupil will be paid to parents/carers in receipt of free school meals or a clothing grant awarded in the current school session.

The funding is being provided to enable the provision of alternative free school meal provision during the October school holiday week.

How will the payment be made to parents and carers?

You do not need to apply. For most families, we will automatically make payments to your bank account using data we currently hold on our systems. If no bank details are held on file, payments will be issued by cheque.

When will I be paid?

Payments will made prior to the October school holiday on or around Friday 08 October 2021.

While payments should be received on these dates this may vary slightly depending on your bank and payment method. Parents and carers receiving payment will be emailed to confirm the payment.

Who is not eligible for this additional support?

Pupils not eligible for this are:

  • Pre-school pupils in early years establishments
  • P1-P4 pupils and those pupils in special educational settings where they receive a free meal through universal and not means tested provision.
