In 2019, we ran a graduate and intern scheme to help us with our succession planning and to provide positive experiences for students and graduates in a local government setting. We recruited four interns and 21 graduates in 2019 who are enjoying their roles and contributing to our goals.

We're now advertising for summer interns who’ll work between June and August 2020 to gain work experience in local government whilst they are studying We’re looking for interns in our HR, Workforce Development and Property and Asset teams.

We’re also recruiting for graduates (one or two year posts) to give them a positive start to their career in local government.

We have opportunities for graduates for one year in our Waste Strategy and Business Management teams.

We have a number of two-year posts available in the following teams:

  • Performance & Information
  • Roads, Bridges & Flooding
  • Planning & Environment
  • Asset Management
  • Housing Communities
  • Housing Operations
  • Property & Asset
  • Planning & Resources
  • Policy & Development

Stuart Irwin, a graduate in Governance over the past year said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working in the Democratic Services team. My workload has been varied, ranging from supporting the Scrutiny Committees to exploring how Falkirk Council will implement participatory budgeting.

"The graduate scheme has helped me developed my research and reporting writing skills. By far, the best aspect of my role has been getting to meet and work with colleagues from across the different Council departments and services."

All posts are advertised on myjobscotland and in local universities and colleges and will close on Friday 27th March.
