As Falkirk Council re-opens its two household recycling centres next week (Monday 1 June), residents are being advised to prepare in advance before visiting.

The two centres at Roughmute (near Bonnybridge) and Kinneil in Bo’ness, will re-open following strict distancing arrangements that have been put in place in line with Scottish Government guidance.

Delays

It is expected that there will be a high demand, and as a result of the restrictions placed on staff and the public, the time taken to access the sites will increase leading to anticipated delays.

From 1 June to 14 June, both sites will be open seven days a week from 8am – 6pm (last entry to either site will be 5:45pm). Future opening times will be reviewed after this date.

Traffic maps

Residents are urged to check the real time traffic maps before travelling so that the time spent at the centre is minimal. Residents should also bring ID to show residency in the Falkirk Council area. The web page also contains lots of information on how the sites will operate.

Councillor Paul Garner, spokesperson for the Environment said: “We are doing everything we can to ensure our recycling centres re-open safely and in line with Government advice.

“There will be significant queues expected throughout the day and we urge everyone to seriously consider if their journey needs to be made at this stage.

“Our advice is only to visit a recycling centres in the first few weeks if it is essential and should only be for excess waste which cannot be stored safely at home and disposed of through the normal kerbside collections.

“It hasn’t been possible to provide a booking system and we feel that this could have potentially disadvantage those who hadn’t pre-booked.

“We’d also remind residents that they can use our bulky uplift service as well as recycling points located throughout local communities. We’ll also have a quick drop facility for some items which allows the quick deposit of certain materials without driving round the whole site.

“Our website has live traffic maps around the recycling centres that show live traffic information we’d urge everyone to check these before travelling. It also has comprehensive information on how the site will operate.

“Ultimately we are all trying to get back to a normality and would ask everyone to be patient, kind and respect the health and safety of staff and visitors alike.

"The sites are for the use of Falkirk Council residents only, so householders are being urged to bring a form of identification to the site.”
