Pupils from Windsor Park School and Sensory Service have shown their budding design skills by winning a place in the seventh annual Pocket Garden Design Competition, run by environment charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

The beautiful garden created by pupils tells the story of ‘Freddie and the Fairy’. The design also incorporates elements to help others learn deaf awareness strategies.

Schools across Scotland developed environmentally friendly designs for a tiny garden telling a story, reflecting the themes of the 2022 Year of Stories, One Planet Picnic and Wildlife Gardening. Windsor Park school was one of 340 entries and in the top 45 to win a place in the digital showcase where the public can vote for the best pocket garden design.

Pupils will now go on to create the garden for real in the school grounds which will feature in the digital showcase in June this year.

Amanda Walker, Headteacher said: “The whole school is really excited about winning a place in the finals in June which will see them now create their own pocket garden for real during the Spring months. The children worked really hard on their designs and had a great time creating them, all the time linking to our curriculum topics and learning skills in ICT/literacy, expressive arts, science, numeracy and health and wellbeing.”

The winning Pocket Gardens will be available to view in the digital showcase from Wednesday 8-20 June.
