Elected Members will be asked to consider a number of reports at the Education, Children and Young People Executive on Tuesday 13 September 2022.

In total,  nine reports will be presented to members for consideration including updates on Early Learning & Childcare (ELC) – 1140 Expansion Plan  and the SQA Attainment in Falkirk Secondary Schools (2022).

We’ve summarised several of the reports to be discussed on the day alongside links to the full papers. Remember, no decision will be made on any recommendations until the meeting, which you can watch live from 10am on the 13th.

Early Learning & Childcare (ELC) – 1140 Expansion Update

After five years the  main infrastructure expansion plans for the project have been completed and work is ongoing to progress the final phase of the 1140 expansion. In August new ELC establishments opened at Carronshore primary school, Denny primary and Glendevon ELCC.

SQA Attainment in Falkirk Secondary Schools (2022)

In 2022 SQA exams resumed and for this year’s cohort it was the first time they had sat formal exams. Initial analysis shows pupils across Falkirk’s secondary schools performed well with a more in-depth report available in Spring 2023.

Moving Closer to Home – Family based care

This report details the work undertaken to expand community-based placements for children in need of care and protection who cannot be cared for at home. The Council now has a responsibility to meet the needs of asylum seeking children and young people and is also part of the Homes for Ukraine Scheme.

Accommodation and Supports for Unaccompanied Children arriving in Falkirk

This is an update on the predicted increased demand for the Council to provide safe accommodation and care for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children through the National Transfer Scheme (NTS) and the start of the Home Office Scheme offering a safe route for unaccompanied children fleeing the war in the Ukraine.
