If you’re a Planet Rock fan and plan to tune into DIY Day on Monday (10 April) then you will hear the dulcet tones of one of the Council’s own!

Graphic Designer, Helen O’Neill, working in Transformation, Communities & Corporate Services, is an avid listener and hearing DIY Day – a day when control of the UK’s biggest rock radio station is handed over to the listeners – was approaching, entered a selection of her favourite songs along with a mini voice clip.

Helen said: “When I heard I’d been picked I was gob-smacked, to be honest! I record links this week at home – my musings about my choices and why I picked them – then my playlist will run for a full hour at 1 pm on the 10th.  It’s all a bit mad. And no, I won’t be using a cheesy DJ voice!”

“I’ve been a fan of rock and metal since I was a teenager and heard Nevermind by Nirvana - I still have it on vinyl from back then. I was a total Grunge kid then, but I’ve since gotten into a whole lot of other bands. My music collection is huge and varied and I love listening to anything loud.”

Helen is tight-lipped on song choices. “You will have to tune in and find out” was the response.
