Our CCTV Team has been recognised for the role it plays in helping to keep communities safe.

Every day our operatives use their keen eye, skill and the latest CCTV technology, to detect crime and antisocial behaviour.

And its thanks to their hard work - and the close working relationship they’ve got with Police Scotland – that they received the Partnership Award at this year's Forth Valley Divisional Commander's Award.

The awards aim to celebrate the work of individual police officers and teams working across the Forth Valley area.

Congratulating the team, Karen Algie, Director of Transformation, Communities & Corporate Services, said:

"Picking up the award is great recognition of the hard work the team does. It also highlights the benefits of partnership working. By joining forces with the police, we are playing a huge role in helping to ensure our area is a safe place live, work and visit."

All in a day’s work

The team uses the latest technology to monitor live feeds from 61 fixed CCTV cameras across the Council area and 23 mobile cameras that can be easily moved to hotspot areas of antisocial behaviour and crime.

All cameras provide both pin-sharp images and digital footage that our CCTV team can record, store or edit. This can then be used as evidence by the police or in court proceedings.

On any given day, the team monitor parks, streets and buildings, using their skills to promote a safer environment for everyone across the Falkirk Council area.

Ian Whitelaw, Business Lead – CCTV/Digital Alarms Hub, said:

“Most people are oblivious to the many CCTV cameras we have, as they’re discreetly positioned to be barely noticeable. But behind the cameras there are highly skilled operators carrying out a very rewarding but extremely challenging job, often under immense pressure. Operatives need to have quick reactions and be on high alert, frequently watching difficult scenes unfold in front of their eyes. Receiving the award is great recognition of the hard work the team does and the strong relationship we have with the police.”
