Proposed future for Slamannan Community Education Centre

As part of Falkirk Council's Strategic Property Review, we've proposed Slamannan Community Education Centre (pictured above) transform into a Partnership Centre.

These plans offer a potential new future for the centre that would see community activities and Council services delivered under one roof.

However, the plans can only move forward if a community group agree to take on the running and management of the centre through a Community Asset Transfer (CAT).

The library would move to the upper floor of the centre. This would increase the size of the local library, offering improved services and facilities as well as space for community-led activities.

The existing staff preparation area would remain the same, with the potential for upgrades if budget allowed. A new staff toilet would be added.

New units would be installed in the tea prep/meeting room area, and a modern reception desk would make the upper floor more welcoming.

While the overall layout of the ground floor would remain unchanged new entrance doors would improve accessibility. We’d also look to redecorate.

To support the proposals, we would invest £500,000 to make improvements to accessibility, energy efficiency and overall usability of the building. This funding could help the community apply for additional grants/match funding to make further improvements.

For the proposals to move forward, a CAT is required. That means a local community group would need to take on the responsibility of managing and running the centre.

If a group submits an Expression of Interest by 31 March 2025, we’d provide support and guidance throughout the CAT process. If no EOI is submitted, the centre would close on 1 April 2025 and would be mothballed.
