Overview of the Scottish Parliamentary Election

Scottish Parliamentary Elections are held every 5 years. Registered voters in Scotland will vote to elect Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) to represent your views and make decisions in the Scottish Parliament on a wide range of issues.

The Falkirk Council area comprises 2 Scottish Parliament Constituencies - Falkirk East and Falkirk West.

One MSP will be elected to represent each Constituency and 7 MSPs will be elected to represent the Region.

Both Constituencies are in the Central Scotland Region. Details on the Central Scotland Region can be found at North Lanarkshire Council's website. For further information, please email ElectionOffice@northlan.gov.uk.

We also have more information on how to register and on different ways of voting, such as postal and by proxy.

Two ballot papers will be issued.

    Constituency ballot paper (lilac)

This ballot paper will list the candidates standing in either the Falkirk East or Falkirk West Constituency.

To vote, simply mark a cross 'X' in the box next to the name of the candidate of your choice. The candidate with the most votes wins the contest for the Constituency.

    Regional ballot paper (peach)

This ballot paper will list parties and individual candidates standing in the Central Scotland Region.

To vote, simply mark a cross 'X' in the box next to the party or candidate of your choice. The parties or individual candidates win seats in the Region based on the number of votes they receive in this Regional ballot and the number of Constituency seats won by the parties in this Region.
