This one day programme aims to assist practitioner to develop skills and confidence in making and recording well evidenced, defensible professional decisions in their day to day Adult Protection practice that will stand up to sound professional and legal scrutiny.

Practitioners will have the opportunity to:

  • explore issues around thresholds for intervention in adult protection practice
  • consider possible sources and providence of information on which sound professional decisions are made
  • explore some of the wider statutory and rights based issues arising from decision making in adult protection practice.

Learning Outcomes

In completing this course, participants will have the opportunities to:

  • Consider the range of information sources which may impact on decision making
  • Explore the nature and provenance of information/evidence
  • Explore the interconnected nature of differing viewpoints
  • Examine some theories of collaborative decision making
  • Practice making professional judgements using live examples
  • Critically analyse your own decision making process

This course is aimed at:

  • Qualified & registered social workers, occupational therapists or nurses who are already or may be required to act as council officers
  • Team managers who will manage or are managing council officers
  • Other relevant key managers in NHS FV or Police Scotland
