A section of the A9 will be closed for three nights next week to allow Balfour Beatty to install essential traffic management that will narrow lanes but maintain two-way traffic flow.
The work is part of Falkirk Council's ambitious A9/A904 Westfield improvement Project, a multi-million-pound investment aimed at transforming the local road infrastructure to support future growth and development in the area.
Closure details
On Monday, 4 November, Wednesday, 6 November and Thursday, 7 November, the section of the A9 that stretches from the roundabout at the Falkirk Stadium to the Etna Road roundabout will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am the following morning.
During the closures, drivers are being advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys. Pedestrians can continue to use the diversion routes already in place until the new footpath is built and opened to the public.

Construction timeline
Once in place, the traffic management will allow the civil engineering firm to safely construct the new section of the A9, which will join the existing road to create a dual carriageway.
When the new section is complete, traffic will shift to the new carriageway while upgrades to the existing road will be carried out until early 2027.
Improvement project
The A9/A904 Westfield Improvement Project includes widening both roads to create dual carriageways, installing new roundabouts, improving access to the Westfield and Middlefield areas, and enhancing active travel with a 5m-wide shared-use path on the north side of the A904.
Funded through the council’s Tax Incremental Financing programme, with additional support from the UK government, the project aims to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and make the area more accessible for businesses, residents, and visitors.
The entire project, including the new road and cycle network, is expected to be completed and fully operational by early 2027.
Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council, said:
"This work is essential to prepare our infrastructure for the significant economic opportunities ahead, especially as the Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal and Forth Green Freeport will bring new businesses and jobs to the local area. The A9 and A904 are major arteries into Falkirk and Grangemouth. By improving these roads, alongside the wider infrastructure improvements made possible through the Tax Incremental Financing programme, it helps position the area as an attractive place to invest. By upgrading our roads now, we are laying the groundwork for a stronger, more prosperous Falkirk Council area that will be better connected and ready for future growth."
