Improvements to Kinneil Estate got underway last week thanks to funding secured from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Guided by community input, the £150k funding will support vital upgrades to access, biodiversity, and the estate’s main drive, ensuring the area remains a valued space for both residents and visitors.
The funding allocation was determined by a public vote held between 12 July and 25 September 2024 when local residents had their say on how the investment should be prioritised.
The investment is enabling a range of projects across the estate with £70k being spent on improving access and parking. Work got underway on 2 December to upgrade car parks and access points, including the main ‘Walled Garden’ and Deanburn Bridge locations.
Improvements will feature:
- Upgraded road and car park surfaces
- Installation of bay linings, signage, and fencing
- New bollards to enhance accessibility
Temporary disruptions, including temporary car park closures, are expected during the construction phase.
The community vote also allocated £50k for improvements to the main drive which includes the planting of 12 new avenue trees to fill existing gaps, improved signage and new fencing and bollards.
And £30k was allocated to boost biodiversity starting with the planting of nectar-rich bulbs in the North Paddock. The Council will also work with the Conservation Volunteers (TCV) on a range of additional biodiversity enhancements over the coming months.
Councillor Paul Garner, Falkirk Council’s Depute Leader said:
“By working closely with the local community, we have ensured that the projects not only meet the funding criteria but also reflect the needs and aspirations of the people who enjoy the estate. Kinneil Estate is a vital part of our local heritage, and these improvements will ensure it remains accessible, welcoming, and environmentally sustainable for generations to come.”
