It’s not hard to see we are living through times of significant change – and none more so than the unprecedented  climate events affecting the world and its environments.

Extreme storms, flooding, wet summers and warmer winters – it’s all happening right in front of our eyes.

In 2019, the Council declared a climate emergency and  ‘agreed to push towards increasing our efforts to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2030’.

While many initiatives are ongoing across services to tackle climate change, the Council is gearing up to take part again in a national week of action against climate change.

Scotland’s Climate Week 2020 takes place from 14th to the 20th of September and brings a wide range of online events and talks all aiming to help raise awareness of how we all have a part to play in tackling climate change.

Roddy Hamilton, Climate Change Graduate said: “Unfortunately the current situation means that this year’s Climate Week won’t involve free cake and coffee at physical events. But it does mean that we have a fantastic opportunity to look further afield for inspiration, with events taking place online from all around the world as well as those with a more local focus.”

During climate week you can find out more about how you can make a difference, reduce your carbon footprint and become more resilient to the changing climate with online events on the themes of:

  • Energy
  • Travel
  • Food
  • Waste & Resources
  • Buildings
  • Sustainable procurement and consumer choices
  • The natural environment
  • Adaptation to climate change
