The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has launched a joint consultation with local authorities to help shape the direction and delivery of flood risk management across Scotland.

Actions to help tackle flooding risk in the local area are detailed in the consultation, as well as information on where the most benefits can be gained from taking action.

The consultation launched on 30 July and members of the public and businesses have until 31 October 2021 to comment on it.

All responses received by this date will help inform the final flood risk management plans, previously called flood risk management strategies and local flood risk management plans.

Flood risk

Scotland has been divided into 14 Local Plan Districts for flood risk management purposes.

It’s estimated there are 65,000 homes and businesses at risk of flooding in the Forth Estuary area. Climate change is projected to increase this number by an estimated 89,000 by the 2080s.
