Employees are being encouraged to pick up a spade and help plant 300 trees in Ash Park, Banknock on Friday, 18 March.
So far seven people from across services have signed up to get their hands dirty but we want to grow that number, as many hands make light work!
By getting involved you'd not only help plant hundreds of native tree whips - awarded to the Council’s Green Champions through TCV's I Dig Trees initiative – but also help spruce up the area litter picking.
The planting takes place on Friday, 18 March from 10am to 12 noon, so you wouldn’t need to dig, dig, dig, dig, dig … the whole day through.
Signing up is easy and best of all the two hours won’t cut into your leave entitlement, because every council employee is allowed up to one days leave to take part in volunteering work.
More than net zero
Because trees remove harmful emissions from the air around us – they literally eat carbon out of the air - planting the right trees, in the right place will help us on our journey to net zero.
They’ll also enhance a local green space for the benefit of communities - people and wildlife alike!
But coming along isn’t just about doing something practical to help tackle the climate emergency, it’s about getting outside in the fresh air, away from your desk and screens.
It’s also about meeting other people - some for the first time; others you might not have seen in person for two years.
It’s about making an outside space more appealing and being proud of the greenspace our Council area has.
