The first phase of infrastructure improvements to aid the flow of traffic through M9 Junction 5 Cadgers Brae Interchange and the surrounding area is due to start on 21 March 2022 for 22 weeks.
The works include the installation of permanent traffic signals on the Interchange, new road surfacing, street lighting and improved facilities for pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorised users.
All approaches to the interchange will, unfortunately, experience some congestion at various times during the works as extensive traffic management measures will be required to carry out the works in a safe manner. Some weekend and night work may be required at various times, and these will be notified through the Council's website and social media accounts.
The second phase of infrastructure improvements is proposed at the junction of the A9/Grandsable Road.
Funded via Falkirk Council’s innovative Tax Incremental Finance Programme (TIF), the improvements will be funded from future business growth generating increased business rates. The improvements will not impact the level of Council Tax.
Business development in the area includes:
- Investment by INEOS - £500m for 250 acres of new development land, £350m energy plant and a £1bn investment in hydrogen production
- £150m investment from CalaChem into its energy from waste plant – supporting its chemicals campus with 30 chemicals businesses / 1,300 jobs
- Celtic Renewables investment in Scotland’s first biorefinery producing high-value low-carbon biochemicals from 50,000 tonnes of whisky industry residues each year
- Planned development of Falkirk Gateway investment sites at Westfield Roundabout
Cllr Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council said: “Falkirk is investing in our future economy to enable growth, improve our competitiveness and create jobs. These works are just the start of a much wider programme of improvements to the local road network. We will see better traffic flow and a more seamless journey for pedestrians and cyclists.”
Further works along the A9, Ice House Brae and the A904 are being programmed in phases over the coming three years.
