Elected members were given an update on the Council's plan to extend the black box kerbside collection until 31 March 2024 in a bid to ensure residents can continue to recycle glass at yesterday's Executive meeting.
The black box collection was due to end in September this year to tie in with the introduction of the national Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).
However, with the Deposit Return Scheme delayed now until 1 March 2024, the black box for glass recycling will continue to be collected to reduce any impact on residents.
There are currently 73 local recycling points located throughout the Falkirk Council area but a consultation with residents will take place next year to help identify if additional recycling points are required.
Councillor Bryan Deakin, spokesperson for Climate Change said: "Given the uncertainty surrounding the introduction of the national Deposit Return Scheme, we want to assure our residents that the black box kerbside collection will continue until the end of March next year in a bid to minimise any disruption.
“We will also continue to review and maintain our large network of local recycling points and Household Waste Recycling Centres to provide suitable alternative for residents.
“The new approach, once in place, will make a positive contribution to climate change targets with increased recycling as well as a reduction in vehicle usage and associated emissions."
Members also agreed to continue the Food and Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHP) collection service, approved by the Executive on 6 December 2022. Residents will continue to receive weekly food waste collections with fortnightly AHP collections (including nappies and incontinence products).
Next year, the Council will become the thirteenth local authority in Scotland to have no household glass recycling service.
