People living in local supported accommodation will now benefit from free internet access.
Kingseat Supported Accommodation Unit in Grangemouth is the first such site to get free WiFi installed, thanks to a transformative Falkirk Council project.
Residents can now search and apply for jobs or benefits, get information and support, and access Council services without worrying about an internet bill.
Financial exclusion
Internet access is a vital lifeline to people facing financial exclusion, such as those without a permanent home.
Things like looking for housing, accessing mental health support, advice and services are now more accessible for people living in temporary housing.
Working with partners, the Digital Communities and Housing teams installed a high-bandwidth internet solution at Kingseat to bridge the internet gap.
Now, free WiFi is set to be rolled out across more Falkirk’s two other supported accommodation sites in 2023.
John Oakes, Falkirk Council’s Digital Communities Programme Coordinator, said:
“Our supported accommodation units house some of society’s most vulnerable people, many of whom depend on internet access for jobs, benefits and support.
“Providing such units with free WiFi means we’re making it easier for residents to access these important resources and opportunities that will improve their mental and physical health and their overall wellbeing.”
Falkirk Council provides specialist support for people facing homelessness in supported accommodation units such as Kingseat.
