Falkirk Council, though its contractor Cireco, is now converting an average of 2000 tonnes of waste a month into electricity at the Earls Gate Energy Centre in Grangemouth. 

The process enables energy to be extracted from materials at very high temperatures, and allows any metals present to be recovered and recycled.  

The energy generated is available 365 days a year. 

The new centre is an Energy-from-Waste Facility (EfW), jointly owned by Brockwell Energy, Covanta and Green Investment Group, in Grangemouth, Scotland. 

Councillor Bryan Deakin, Spokesperson for Climate Change explained: “The process is a safe and far more sustainable alternative to burying waste in landfill sites. 

“The Earls Gate facility in Grangemouth is state of the art and meets the highest possible environmental standards for the industry. 

“The energy generated is being used by local industry, helps sustain local jobs and aligns with the Council’s net zero ambitions.”

  Robin Baird, Chief Executive Officer of Cireco, said: “Cireco are looking forward to a 10 year partnership with Falkirk Council, sending their residual waste to Energy from Waste.
