A new, user-friendly web app designed to make waste management services more accessible and convenient for residents is available to add to your mobile phone.

The innovative app is part of the Council's ongoing effort to improve digital services, especially for the increasing number of users accessing the Council's website from mobile devices.

With 75% of all visits coming from mobile, and 25% of those related to waste services, the new app aims to address a crucial community need.

The web app - available at recycling.falkirk.gov.uk - offers a range of features to help residents stay on top of bin collections, recycling, and other waste services. This tool is set to streamline access to information and services that will improve how residents manage their waste and recycling efforts.

Key Features of the recycling web app are:

  • Personalised Bin Collection Information: The app remembers your address and always shows your upcoming bin collection schedule
  • Dedicated Pages and Printable Schedules: Each bin type has its own page with detailed collection info and the option to print your collection schedule
  • 'Bin Wizard' Feature: Unsure what goes in which bin? The 'Bin Wizard' will guide you to ensure you're recycling correctly
  • Live Recycling Centre Availability: Check real-time availability at local recycling centres, making it easier to plan your visit
  • Service Integration: Quick access to popular waste services, including reporting missed bins, arranging bulky uplifts, and applying for garden waste permits
  • Progressive Web App (PWA): add it directly to your mobile device home screen for easy access, even when you're offline.

With over 30,000 devices already subscribed to the Council’s iCalendar system for bin collections and more than 8,000 residents receiving email alerts, the new web app is set to further improve communication and service delivery.

Councillor Bryan Deakin, spokesperson for Climate Change said: "The launch of our new recycling web app marks an important step in making waste services more accessible and convenient for residents. We recognise that the majority of our community engages with us through mobile devices, and this app directly addresses the needs of those users.

"While we strive to enhance digital access and improve the experience for residents who can engage online, we are equally committed to improving the customer service experience for those who cannot access digital services.

"By encouraging those who can use the new app, we can reduce the pressure on our contact centre, allowing us to better serve residents who may rely on phone or in-person support. In this way, the app benefits the entire community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their access to technology, receives the assistance and support they need.”

From the comfort of your phone, residents can now receive notifications for upcoming bin collections, set up service requests for bulky waste collection or purchase a garden waste permit, book and manage recycling centre permits for household or business waste and also check real-time slot availability at local recycling centres (HWRCs).

To get the most out of the new web app, residents can add it on their mobile device home screen for quick and convenient access to all services by going to recycling.falkirk.gov.uk. With real-time notifications, easy bin lookup tools, and quick links to service requests, the app will make waste management hassle-free.
