Beat the Street, the community wide active travel game which gets everyone moving is set to return to Falkirk West in February 2025.

Running from 19 February until 19 March, the game aims to encourage communities to stay active and use more environmentally friendly methods of transport, such as walking and cycling, to get around.

Previous success

The previous event in 2024 saw 3,718 people, around 20% of the population, walking and cycling across Denny, Bonnybridge and Camelon, resulting in a total of 35,918 active travel miles throughout the month.

Participants who took part in last year's event across Falkirk West reported that they continued walking more for short trips once the game had finished, using their car less, and feeling better both mentally and physically.

Beat the Street is set to hit 2 million participants in the UK this year and celebrate 10 years of running the game across Scotland in 2025.

Get involved

Open to all ages and abilities, players participate in the game by using a Beat the Street Smartcard to tap on one of 33 'Beat Boxes’ located throughout Denny, Bonnybridge and Camelon. Players over the age of 13 can download the Beat the Street app for free.

People can sign up as individual players or through participating primary schools, community groups, or workplace teams. Prizes are available to those teams or individuals who have travelled the most active travel miles. There is also a total points leaderboard and an average leaderboard for schools and community teams.

Head of Muir Primary School topped last year’s leaderboard, while Denny Primary School led in average points. In the community and workplace category, ‘The Mad House!’ ranked first for both total and average points.

Councillor Paul Garner, Deputy Leader at Falkirk Council, said: "The return of Beat the Street by popular demand is such a great chance for people of all ages to get moving and have fun together across Falkirk West. It’s fantastic to see so many of us out walking, cycling, and running, and after last year’s success, I’m excited to see even more people join in and aim for an even better score in 2025!"

Beat the Street is funded by Transport Scotland and delivered by Intelligent Health in partnership with Falkirk Council.
