There are 8 projects seeking funding in Falkirk South, as well as 4 Falkirk-wide projects.
Place-Based Capital Projects
Ettrick Dochart Community Hall
New windows.
Amount requested: £24,238
The hall windows are the original ones installed, they are cracked, broken and don't open. The committee are aware they could fall out and injure someone. They allow draughts in and this impacts on the cost of the heating. They are not secure and this is a hazard for the hall being broken into. The hall is used regularly by residents for parties and events and the noise is not contained because of the poor quality of the windows.
Tamfourhill Community Hub SCIO
Upgrade of Disabled and Women's toilets
Amount requested: £23,269
The Tamfourhill community hub wishes to upgrade the existing disabled toilet and women’s bathrooms. The current toilets are inadequate and in urgent need of refurbishment. The aim is to provide clean, safe, hygienic toilets to the hall users, whilst upgrading to more energy efficient resources that will help the hall contribute to NET Zero and bring down costs within the hall. Accessible and adequate disabled toilets are important and beneficial for people with disabilities and their families. They promote independence, safety, dignity, privacy, equality, and inclusion for people of all ages and abilities. Everyone within the community will benefit from better facilities and greater accessibility in their local community space, the is the only accessible public toilet facility within Tamfourhill – close to two parks and the Roman fortlet.
Barony Players (Falkirk-wide project)
Raising the Roof on The Barony Theatre.
Amount requested: £51,012.22
The Barony Theatre is a unique community theatre venue in Bo'ness; open and accessible to all in the Falkirk Council area and beyond. It is home to our adult company of Players, our Youth Theatre, and the Secret Cinema. We also attract touring professional theatre companies, host ghost hunting groups, hire out the theatre to other professional or community groups, hold Open Days and participate in the Hippfest Silent Film Festival.
In order to continue and expand our programme of community involvement, we need a building which is wind and watertight to protect the Victorian interior and technical equipment and provide a comfortable environment for all our users.
We will use the grant to replace 2 sections of the roof which are beyond repair and causing damage to the interior. We anticipate the work will take 6 months and be completed for our 70th Anniversary celebrations in June 2024.
Falkirk Football Community Foundation (Falkirk-wide project)
Electric van.
Amount requested: £43,348.99
Falkirk Football Community Foundation's vision is to be a leading provider of sport, health, education, and employability activities to children, young people, and adults in our community.
The Falkirk Foundation works with local and national partners to provide innovative initiatives that engage people across all age groups and backgrounds. We are extremely proud of our partner relationships that are the heartbeat of the community.
The community's wellbeing is integral to our work and tackling deep-rooted issues is of utmost importance.
We hope to purchase an electric van to deliver our projects in different locations in the Falkirk Community. These projects range from football delivery, employability, mental health and first aid. The vehicle will be used to help with our winter campaign where we deliver food hampers, warm clothing and toys to those that need them over the winter.
The purchase will help in the Foundations goal of becoming carbon neutral.
Falkirk Fury Basketball (Falkirk-wide project)
Transport assistance to basketball programme.
Amount requested: £50,720
Falkirk Fury Basketball Club works in schools and organisation all across the Falkirk Council area. Having our own minibus will reduce the number of parents and players cars on the road, thus helping cut carbon emissions.
It will also allow the club to deliver sessions more easily, transport players/coaches to games and assist schools and organisations where transport is an issue. We would use the bus to transport our players - 16 teams - to games which are played all over Scotland. Many of our players do not have transport and a minibus would be of tremendous benefit in solving these issues.
Falkirk Junior Bike Club (Falkirk-wide project)
Public Access Defibrillators at cycling hubs.
Amount requested: £6,920
Early access to a defibrillator can vastly improve the chance of survival. As a club, we coach in many locations in Falkirk that are currently some distance from a defibrillator, and we are conscious that if someone was to suffer a cardiac arrest it could take some time to get access to a defib. Each of these locations is also used by many other groups who promote sport and physical activity, as well as many other members of the community, so this project has the potential to offer life saving support for many.
We would like to make these accessible in 3 different locations:
- Callendar Park
- Callendar Estate Activity Centre Camp
- Zetland Park
And a 4th one to ensure we have a portable one for any events and community sessions we run. We would appreciate if you could see the impact this will create and a safer community for all.
Friends of Forth Valley First Responders (Falkirk-wide project)
Installation of Public Access Defibrillators (PADs).
Amount requested: £32,290
The project would look to place Public Access Defibrillators across the Falkirk Council area.
Fourteen sites have been identified with a further four requiring new cabinets. A contingency would be included as with previous installations, extra ones came forward but could not be accommodated.
Every year the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) responds to around 200 people in Falkirk who have a sudden, unexpected out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Only 10% of these people survive.
Survival would be greatly increased if PADs were used. In the event of an OHCA within range of a PAD, the public would be directed to it by Ambulance Control after calling 999. They would also be given instructions to enable them to use the PAD prior to arrival of the Emergency Services.
We would also offer the community sessions to learn CPR and how to use of a PAD.
Small Grants
Ancre Somme Association Scotland
Purple Poppy Memorial
Amount requested: £4,800
The Purple Poppy remembers the Animals that have served our Nation from WW1/WW2 and who still serve today.
There is currently no Purple Poppy Memorial or Event in Falkirk. We will create a permanent memorial in Callendar Park and an annual Purple Poppy Community Event in the form of a Sponsored Purple Poppy Walk Event for owners and dogs.
Classic Music Live! Falkirk
The future of Classic Music Live! Falkirk
Amount requested: £3,000
A group of dedicated volunteers making up Classic Music! Live! Falkirk have been working hard to bring top Classical music artists to the stage in Falkirk. Many people are unaware that they are already used to hearing Classical music on their radios and TVs, backing films, soaps and adverts. We want to give the community the opportunity to experience this music live performed by young future stars of the classical world.
When we plan our programme, we look for, as far as possible, home-grown talent. During lockdown all musicians suffered a loss of income, and they are struggling to continue their careers; by giving them the opportunity to perform in Falkirk it helps them get back on track. We hope an appropriate grant would allow to plan for a future season and book high calibre artists in keeping with our past seasons.
Enable Falkirk & District Branch
Awakening Family Festival 2024
Amount requested: £5,000
Awakening Family Festival is an inclusive outdoor event for people with disabilities and their families and friends. It prioritises accessibility, community engagement, and social integration. The festival features live music, DJs, family entertainment, food, fairground rides and stalls from organisations dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities.
It addresses critical community needs, providing inclusivity, connecting people, and meeting high demand. We offer accessible facilities, including Pamiloo, disabled toilets and a sensory area. The festival educates through a static display of emergency vehicles, sports and arts and crafts. Our project aims to break social barriers, build connections, and set a standard for inclusivity at public events.
Falkirk Bowling Club
Replacement of furniture so more groups can use club.
Amount requested: £4,300
Since COVID-19, the Club has received a large number of enquiries from community groups for the use of the Club premises. Unfortunately, due to limited space, and because our furniture consists of heavy tables and chairs that are not easily moved or stored, we have been severely limited to what groups and activities we could accommodate. Replacement of the existing Club furniture with lighter folding tables and stackable chairs would greatly improve the amount of free space available and allow the club to host additional activities which in turn could allow more community groups to use the Club.
LGBT Youth Scotland
LGBTQ+ Culture Celebrations
Amount requested: £5,000
Our project is all about supporting LGBTQ+ young people – and allies – in Falkirk.
LGBTQ+ young people can face difficult challenges like being left out or bullied for expressing their real selves. Over recent years, we've seen this get worse, and it’s having serious effects on their wellbeing – in 2012, 66% of LGBTQ+ young people told us they were happy with their lives, but in 2022 this had plummeted to just 37%.
We want to show that Falkirk is a place where everyone is welcome by creating fun, inclusive events and safe spaces. Our plans include something for everyone – from partying at Pride, meditation sessions for mental health, and even a cook-off to counter homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
Our awesome 'FK1nclude' youth group will work together to create a year-long programme of activities from April 2024 to April 2025. We hope to see you there!
Tamfourhill TRO
The community living room
Amount requested: £4,300
The community Livingroom will be a designated space for our community to meet up, interact and engage with their community.
The community Livingroom is being developed to use for our young people, our older groups and families, The space will offer everyone a free, warm, welcoming and friendly space to visit and use. We aim to turn the space into a Livingroom style area, that will help others connect with their community and make new friends.
The aim is to also develop drop in cafes in the space to help bring groups together.
The funding will be used to purchase two sofas for the area and a mural on the wall to decorate the space, to allow it to be warm and welcoming.
