The sale of Kilns House, a B Listed property situated next to Dollar Park, has been approved by Members at the Council’s Executive meeting (11 April).

This will generate a capital receipt of £250k to the Common Good Fund which may be used in the future for the benefit of the former Burgh of Falkirk residents and communities.

Kilns House was declared surplus to requirements in November 2020 and was last used as office space for Falkirk Council’s former Community Services in 2005. Since then it has been unoccupied.

The property was marketed with a planning statement which set out key requirements for its future use and development recognising that the property is B Listed and is located within a conservation area.

The proposal accepted will return the property for use as a private dwelling house and restore an important architectural and historical local property back into residential use which is currently in poor condition.

A higher offer of £315k was rejected as it was contrary to the planning statement and included the intention to build two additional four-bedroom houses within the grounds.

Councillor Paul Garner, spokesperson for Economic Development said: “I’m pleased to see that Kilns House, a beautiful period property, is to be brought back to life as a family home.

“The offer we have accepted, while not the highest, meets the criteria set in the planning brief and reflects the protected nature of the location as a conservation area.”
