What is Green Dog Walkers?
Green Dog Walkers (GDW) is a non-confrontational, friendly way to change attitudes about dog fouling in the Falkirk Council area. Volunteers wear a GDW armband (or their dogs wear the green GDW collar) to show they have "taken the pledge" to always:
- Clean up after their dog
- Carry extra dog waste bags
- Be happy to be approached to 'lend' a dog waste bag to those without
- Be a friendly reminder to other dog walkers to clean up after their dogs
We have close to 1000 volunteers in the Falkirk Council area, as well as 24 local community group partners who are managing their own schemes within their neighbourhoods. Nineteen other local authorities have taken on Green Dog Walkers licenses in Scotland, England and Ireland and more are coming on board. There are currently approximately 3000 pledgers throughout the UK and Ireland.
GDW has previously won the UK Kennel Club Dog Recognition Award and was also featured at the Crufts Dog Show, Crufts TV and on the BBC Scotland Radio 4 "The Scoop on Poop". GDW was a 2012 finalist for the CIWM Innovation in Waste Management Award.
