From 1 October separate vehicles will collect your black box, your food caddy and (if you use the service) AHP sacks. This means that if you have a food and black box collection on the same day, a different vehicle will service your black box and your food caddy. Report any missed collections via My Falkirk

As the green bin collection is every 4 weeks, some households may need help to dispose of disposable nappies and incontinence products also known as Absorbent Hygiene Products or AHP. To help we can provide an additional collection service.

You can still use your green bin for disposable nappies and incontinence products.

How it works

  • Once we have received your application form, it will be checked by Waste Services
  • If your application is successful a confirmation email detailing how the service works will be sent to you and a supply of white bags will be delivered to your property as soon as possible
  • Unless otherwise agreed, only 2 Council issued white bags will be uplifted per collection
  • All white bags should be tied securely, with the contents fully contained within the bags before being presented at the kerbside or agreed collection point
  • The white bags will be collected every 2 weeks on the same day as the black box.

    Rural properties approved to receive the AHP service will have their white bags collected fortnightly on the same day as their food waste caddy. Rural properties collection calendars will show the following collection cycle week one food waste and AHP, week two food waste and black box.

How do I apply?

To receive the AHP collection service households are required to complete an application form.

You must use all the following services to manage your waste to qualify for the service.

Textile bag Clothing, other textiles, shoes
Brown bin Garden waste

If you have been approved to receive the AHP collection service and need a new supply of white bags please complete the request a bin form.

Please do not complete the application form again as you will be re-applying for this service.

What materials can I put in the white bags?

  • Disposable nappies
    • All types and size
    • Training pants and pull ups
    • Swim pants
  • Incontinence products
    • All types and sizes of pads, pants and pouches
    • Disposable chair pads and disposable bed pads/liners

What can't be put in the white bags?

  • Needles, sharps and syringes
  • Plaster casts
  • Plasters, medical swabs and dressings
  • Blankets and clothing
  • Animal faeces
  • Any material that can go in other recycling containers

All white bags must be tied securely. White bags which are not presented in this way will not be collected.

Any white bags not uplifted should be placed in your green bin.

What happens to the waste in the white bags?

The material put in the white bags is taken to landfill, which means it is simply buried in the ground.

Can I have a container to store the white bags?

No. It is up to the householder to store the bags between collections.

If my supply of white bags runs out can I use any plastic bag?

No. We will only collect Council issued white bags for the AHP collection service.

How do I request a new supply of bags?

You will normally be provided with a year's supply of white bags, based on presenting 2 bags per collection. If you run out of white bags and require a new supply please complete the request a bin form. We will only collect Council issued white bags.

How long can I request the AHP collection service for?

We aim to contact householders on a yearly basis to review their application to receive the AHP collection.

What happens if I put the wrong material in the white bag?

Should materials other than disposable nappies and incontinence products be presented in the white bags they will not be uplifted. Households who put the wrong materials in the white bags will be removed from the collection service.

Any non-uplifted white bags should be placed in your green bin.

Can I also use my green bin for disposable nappies and incontinence products

Yes. We advise householders to put disposable nappies and incontinence products in any plastic bag before putting them in the green bin.

Can I have a larger green bin if I use the white bags?

Requests for a larger green bin will be considered on an individual basis. You must apply for a larger green bin. This requires you to complete an application form and also a waste audit diary. If you do not use all the kerbside recycling services including the weekly food waste service we will not consider your larger green bin application.

Special provision for some householders will be made, for example if there is a medical requirement. These provisions will be considered on an individual basis.

Can I receive the AHP service collection service if I am a child minder?

No. Waste from home businesses such as child minders and crèche's is classed as commercial waste. Please contact Trade Waste.
