Festive recycling top tips

Festive recycling top tips to reduce and recycle waste:

  • Reuse your Christmas food leftovers with top tips for leftover recipes - Love Food Hate Waste. Recycle any food scraps in your grey food caddy (including carcasses, bones, seafood shells, nutshells and brussel sprouts).
  • Christmas cards and wrapping paper without glitter or embellishments can go in the burgundy bin. Foil/plasticised/glittery cards and wrapping paper should be placed in the green bin.
  • Real Christmas trees and real holly wreaths (bauble & ribbon free) can be recycled at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • Synthetic Christmas tree – reuse next Christmas, donate to a charity shop or take to your Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • Recycle old or broken electrical items at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre or to the shop where your new item was bought.
  • Batteries and small electrical items can be recycled in your black box.
  • Donate unwanted presents to reuse organisations or to a local charity shop.
  • Food cans and dried goods can be donated to your local food bank. Make sure these are unopened and in date.

Remember

  • Recycling and waste bins should be presented by 6:30am on the kerbside with the lids closed.
  • Recycling and waste presented beside your bin will not be collected. All material must be in the container. Excess material can be taken to your local recycling points or your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • No plastic bags should be placed in either the burgundy (paper & card) or blue (plastics, cans or cartons) bins. If you use plastics bags to collect your materials, please tip the content into the bin and place the emptied plastic bags in the green (landfill) bin.
  • Please report any missed collections within 24 hours.
