Social work staff attend Falkirk Sheriff Court every working day. Our staff provide
the court with information about the person appearing in front of them.
This helps the court to make remand (when a person is held in custody) and sentencing
decisions.
When in court, we:
- Give advice to Sheriffs, the Procurator Fiscal, defence agents and the Sheriff clerk
about the person appearing in court
- Give advice offenders and their families about the criminal justice system
- Carry out interviews with any person who has been given a community sentence, remanded
or sent to prison
- Provide the court with written and spoken reports about the person appearing in
court
- Speak with friends, family, the Police and any other relevant organisations about
the needs of the person appearing in court
