As part of our Housing Investment Programme, windows and doors of Council properties will be replaced across the Council area.

The replacement programme is based on the age of the current windows and doors. However, other factors have also influenced the programme including:

  • Area based schemes being co-ordinated with the external fabric programme to minimise disruption to all residents.
  • Condition based on local knowledge from technical and housing officers.
  • Prioritising off-gas villages and areas where homes have lower energy efficiency performance to assist tenants who are in fuel poverty and help the Council meet the Energy Efficiency Standards for Social Housing.

The replacement programme is expected to take approximately 8 years to complete, with an average of 2,000 properties being completed per year.

When is my home getting done

Installations will start in January 2022.

Where possible, the installation of windows and doors will be completed in 1 day to ensure properties are wind and watertight, however, remedial works, plastering, roughcasting repairs etc will be completed within 1 week of the installation.

Use our search facility to check when your home is scheduled for replacement windows and doors:

Homes not included in the replacement programme are the high flats, new build projects and full modernisation projects where the windows and doors were replaced as part of the project.

Before the work can start

Properties will need to be surveyed to measure the current windows and doors and this work will be carried out by contractors appointed by us.

The contractor will contact tenants directly, by letter, to arrange a suitable time to carry out the survey. The survey should take approximately 30-60 minutes.

Not all properties in a street will be surveyed.

The streets where surveys will be carried out over the next 3-4 months (for year 1 of the programme) include:

Contractors carrying out the work

A 4 year contract has been awarded to the following contractors for the supply and installation of the windows and doors:

  • Sidey Solutions
  • Douglas Livingston trading as DCL Joiner and Construction

Tenant safety is paramount to us and scammers and rogue traders may try to take advantage of our programme to trick you into handing over money or personal details. Be wary of any company other than our appointed contractors (Sidey Solutions and DCL Joinery and Construction) that say their windows and doors have been endorsed by Falkirk Council.

Our Scams, rogue traders and doorstep crime page has information about common consumer scams and what to look out for.

The contractors working on this programme will communicate directly with tenants, via letter, this will include the Council Logo as well as their own. These letters will include contact details. Our contractors logo's look like:

Photographic ID badges will ALWAYS be made available for your inspection by contractor and council employees.

Window and door specifications

The windows and doors are of a high specification and are estimated to last up to 60 years. They are low maintenance, as there is no need for painting which will limit any inconvenience to our tenants.

Windows will be of timber construction with an aluminium cladding on the external surfaces to protect them from the elements and remove the need for future maintenance. They will be triple glazed to provide a high level of thermal efficiency and sound proofing to the property.

Doors, where possible, will be a timber construction with a glass reinforced plastic (GRP) finish and UPVC frame which removes the need for future maintenance. All doors are thermally insulated to improve the energy efficiency of the property. Planned replacement is for individual homes only and does not include any communal doors.
