Jamie's story
Young parent Jamie, started working as a labourer at Rustic Eco Properties, a local business based in Denny. This role was supported with funding from our Employment and Training Unit (ETU). Jamie got back in touch with ETU to see if there were any training opportunities to allow him to progress in his role with the company.
As ETU has specific funding to support parents in work, ETU was able to offer Jamie and his employer the funding for forklift training that was essential to him progressing in the role.
Jamie completing this training has been great for Dave, manager at Rustic Eco Properties as Jamie can now undertake more tasks making a real asset to the team. In addition, and with the support of ETU, Dave has also hired a new staff member and says:
As a small business, support with taking on new staff and getting help with their training needs has proven to be vital.
Jamie is exceeding his own expectations and offers this advice to other young people like himself:
My advice to young people is not to get downbeat if you're not successful at first. Keep a clear mindset and a positive attitude towards finding a job… you will find the right place for you.
Employment and Training Co-ordinator Heather explains:
Jamie has really grown into his role since completing his certificate in forklift training. This is a great example where we've been able to support the career progression of a parent in-work which is great for both the employee and the employer.
If like Jamie, you're a parent who needs training support while in work, our In-work support for parents has more information about the range of parental in-work support available across the Falkirk Council area.
ETU is here to help local businesses grow and develop their workforce. Employers can subscribe to our employer e-zine for up-to-date information on how to access the help and support available through ETU.
