You may pay less council tax if someone living in your property has a permanent and substantial disability. To qualify for disabled band reduction, the property must have at least one of the following:
- been adapted to allow wheelchair use indoors
- a second bathroom, shower room or kitchen used to meet the needs of the person with the disability
- a room used solely to meet the needs of the person with the disability
How to apply
If you think you may qualify, please complete the disabled band reduction application form.
The amount of the reduction is the difference between the actual valuation band and the band below it. From 1 April 2000, new council tax legislation came into force with regard to band A properties. Band A properties qualify for a reduction which is calculated at 5/9th that of the Band D charge.
