Help lead change in Grangemouth - apply to become Chair of the Town Team

Would you like to play a part in building a greener, healthier future for Grangemouth as local industry adapts and the town transitions to a net zero future? Do you want to work with others to ensure local voices are heard and local priorities are delivered as part of that change?
If so, you could be the right person to chair the Greener Grangemouth Town Team – a voluntary role that puts you at the heart of a 10-year programme focused on community-led change.
As the chair you will be an important member of the Town Team – a team made up of local community members, businesses and partners working together to shape and support the Greener Grangemouth programme, part of the £100 million Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal.
What is Greener Grangemouth? 🌱
Greener Grangemouth aims to ensure local people benefit as the town’s industrial cluster transitions away from fossil fuels towards clean energy and low-carbon innovation.
As industries adapt, the programme will look to improve local places, health and wellbeing, and skills – with the community helping to lead that change.
The programme is backed by £12 million in funding and aims to:
- Improve neighbourhoods and local infrastructure
- Support community-led projects and organisations
- Create skills and employment opportunities
- Promote health and wellbeing
- Build local capacity for long-term resilience
The Town Team will be at the heart of delivering change. Made up of local residents, businesses, and partner organisations, the team’s focus is to ensure Grangemouth’s transition to net zero benefits the people who live and work in the town.
Chair’s responsibilities 🤝
As the chair you would be expected to:
- Chair meetings, making sure discussions are inclusive and focused
- Represent the team locally and nationally, including on the Growth Deal Programme Board
- Support communication about the programme and help promote its impact
- Work closely with the Programme Manager and team to keep things moving
- Help shape ideas and highlight opportunities that benefit the community
While you won’t make final decisions on funding or projects, you’ll have a key role in keeping the programme moving, encouraging others to contribute, and championing the team’s work.
The role is voluntary, with an expected commitment of around 15 days over the year. Full support and guidance will be provided.
Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council, said:
This is a unique chance to help shape what happens next for Grangemouth. Greener Grangemouth is about real change – not just in the environment, but in people’s lives. We are looking for a chair who believes in the town, can bring people together, and wants to help build a greener, healthier future for everyone who lives and works in Grangemouth.
How does Greener Grangemouth link with the Growth Deal? 🔗
Greener Grangemouth is one part of the wider Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal – a major, long-term investment programme supported by Falkirk Council, the UK and Scottish Governments, and other partners.
The Deal is expected to bring up to 1,660 new jobs and more than £628m of economic benefit to the area, with 11 major projects spanning innovation, skills, culture, transport, and sustainable development.
